PUEBLO PINTADO — Services for Joe Y. Castillo, 76, will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday May 3, 2011, at Star Lake, N.M. Burial will follow services at the Memorial Garden in Star Lake.
Castillo died April 25, 2011, in Pueblo Pintado. He was born June 4, 1934, in Ojo Encino, N.M. into the Near the Water Clan for the Under His Cover People Clan.
Castillo competed in Intermountain Indian School in Brigham, Utah as a champion swimmer and basketball player. He was a ranch hand in Wyoming for seven years. He retired as a labor union member of Ariz., and helped build Glen Canyon Dam. He was also a labor union member for 40 years and participated in rodeos. He was a livestock owner.
Survivors include his brothers Andy Castillo of San Rafael, Harry M. Yazzie of Bluewater, Raymond M. Yazzie from Baca, N.M.; sisters Ruth Delgarito of Canoncito, Pauline Apachitto of Milan, Frances Yazzie of Grants.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lettie Castillo of Tuba City; stepson Larry Castillo; parents Juan Castillo, Elsie Largo Castillo.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the White Horse Lake Chapter House in White Horse.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
GALLUP — Services for Emilia DiGiallonardo, 90, will be announced at a later date. DiGiallonardo died Friday, April 29, 2011, in Gallup. She was born February 23, 1921, in Cansano, Italy.
